Who we are

Archistrail is a curated map and editorial atlas of designed spaces. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used. If you have questions, contact us at hello@archistrail.com.

What data we collect

When you create an account and use Archistrail on the website or in the app, we collect:

• Account details — your email address, display name and, if you add one, a profile photo. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from them.
• Your record — places you save (want to visit), like, and check in to.
• Check-ins — the date, an optional note and the photos you add. Check-ins are public: the photos appear in the visitor gallery of the place with your display name and the date, and in your Passport.
• Submissions and suggestions — new places you send for review (name, location, photos) and edits you suggest.
• Comments — text you post on place pages.
• Usage events — when you are signed in, we record which places you view, open on the map, navigate to or share, to understand how places are discovered. These are tied to your account and removed from it when you delete the account.

We do not collect payment information and do not use advertising or tracking across other apps or websites.

Location, camera and photos (app)

• Location while using the app — used on your phone to centre the map on you, show places near you and recognise the place you are checking in to. We do not store your location history.
• Nearby reminders — with your permission, the app uses your location (also in the background, if you allow it) to notify you when Archistrail places you have not visited are within about 1 km, and when you arrive at one. At most one reminder every 30 minutes. This is checked on your phone; your location is not sent to us. You can turn notifications or background location off at any time in your phone's settings.
• Camera and photo library — used only when you take or choose photos for a check-in or your profile photo. If a photo carries the location where it was taken, the app reads it on your phone to suggest the place; the location is not stored with your photo.
• Places around you — to suggest places that are not yet in the atlas, the app sends the approximate position of your photo or phone to Mapbox and to OpenStreetMap (Overpass) servers. When you send a new place for review, its position is stored with the submission.
• Notifications — reminders are created on your phone. We do not send push notifications.

Why we collect it

• To provide your Passport: saved, liked and visited places and your check-in photos.
• To show public check-in photos and comments on place pages.
• To process place submissions and suggested edits, and contact you about them.
• To improve the atlas from how places are discovered and visited.
• To maintain account security and prevent abuse.

Your photos

You keep the copyright of photos you upload. By uploading, you allow Archistrail to show them in the app, on the website and in its own editorial use. Use in print, books or commercial campaigns needs your separate permission. Uploaded photo files are publicly reachable by their link.

Third-party services

Archistrail uses the following external services:

• Supabase — database and authentication. Your account data is stored on Supabase infrastructure.
• Google and Apple — sign-in, only if you choose to sign in with them.
• Mapbox — maps and nearby place search. Mapbox receives your approximate location when the map shows your position or the app looks up places around you.
• OpenStreetMap (Overpass) — nearby place names for check-ins at places not yet in the atlas; receives the approximate position of the lookup.
• Cloudflare R2 — image storage for photos you upload.
• Vercel — hosting of the website and the app's server functions.

We do not use advertising networks, sell your data, or share it with third parties beyond what is listed above.

Cookies

The website uses cookies only for authentication — to keep you signed in between sessions. These are strictly necessary cookies and do not track your behaviour across other websites. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you:

• You can delete your account yourself: in the app under Passport → Settings → Delete account, or on the website in your profile settings.
• You can change your display name and profile photo at any time.
• You can request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct inaccurate information.

Contact us at hello@archistrail.com for any data requests. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your account, saved places and record are removed and your usage events are de-identified. Public comments and place submissions are kept for the editorial record without your name.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service grows. Significant changes will be communicated by email to registered users. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
