About this place

Kim Tai-soo's 1986 fortress-like museum in the hills south of Seoul — the original home of Korea's national modern art museum, organised around Nam June Paik's towering 'The More, the Better'.

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art opened its Gwacheon building in 1986, designed by Kim Tai-soo with stone walls and a spiralling central ramp that recall traditional fortresses. At its core stands Nam June Paik's monumental video tower 'The More, the Better', and the museum sits within a landscaped sculpture park at the foot of Cheonggyesan.
